MAGNUS interviewed by Corporate Risk and Insurance

May 24th, 2012 by MAGNUS

Ian Pope, director of MAGNUS Investor Relations + Corporate Communication, speaks to Corporate Risk and Insurance TV’s Donna Sawyer about Crisis Communications in the Digital Age.

The current economic environment continues to present companies with a number of challenges, not the least of which is an unforgiving news cycle.

As companies contend with regulatory change, productivity and capital management challenges, and an uncertain political environment, they are also dealing with a media sector that has never been so diverse and fast.  In the event of a crisis situation breaking, it is now more important than ever before for an executive team to be able to react quickly and communicate with key stakeholders, including investors and the media.

One of the most critical aspects of crisis management is preparedness; how prepared and how quickly can an executive team react to a material and reputational issue?

Following his recent work as lead advisor on a number of high-profile crisis and issues, Ian Pope was recently interviewed by Corporate Risk & Insurance TV regarding the impact of social media on crisis communication.  One of the main areas for discussion is speed and how companies need to better prepare in order to communicate effectively when events move very quickly.

MAGNUS Investor Relations + Corporate Communication has expanded its investor relations and corporate transaction communication advisory team with the addition of Victoria Hunt as Senior Client Advisor and Stephanie Sim as Client Advisor.

Victoria brings to MAGNUS six years’ experience with Macquarie Group in investor relations, equity capital markets and asset management in Sydney and New York.

Stephanie joins MAGNUS from Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where she worked in mergers and acquisitions, capital raisings, initial public offerings and corporate restructurings for mining services, retail, industrial distribution, healthcare and professional services clients.

MAGNUS Managing Director, John Gardner, said the appointment of Victoria and Stephanie is an exciting step in MAGNUS’s continued growth and its position as one of the emerging investor relations and corporate communication firms in Australia.

“The expansion of the corporate transaction communication advisory team with the hire of Victoria and Stephanie significantly boosts our capacity to service a growing list of investor relations clients and listed companies undertaking complex corporate transactions,” John said.

MAGNUS has also welcomed Kirsty Lally to the team as Finance and Operations Manager to support the expanded client advisory team.

“Kirsty has 12 years experience working for listed entities in the energy, oil and gas sectors, as well as a number of years working for international accounting firm, KPMG. Her experience spans corporate transactions and shareholder communication, through to day-to-day financial activities.

MAGNUS strengthens team with Dudley White appointment

September 8th, 2010 by MAGNUS

MAGNUS Investor Relations + Corporate Communication has strengthened its corporate transaction communication advisory team with the appointment of Dudley White as Director of Investor Relations and Corporate Transactions.

Dudley bringsDW pic more than 13 years’ experience in corporate transactions, media and investor communication in Australia, the UK and Asia Pacific to the MAGNUS business.

Over his career Dudley has developed a deep specialisation in financial communication for listed and unlisted companies, and advised on a number of significant transactions including acquisitions, public-to-private takeovers, debt restructurings and initial public offerings.

Before moving into communication advisory roles, Dudley had a successful career as a journalist with Bloomberg News in their London, Melbourne and Sydney offices. During his time at Bloomberg, Dudley developed a specialisation in mining and oil and gas, coordinating coverage across the Asia Pacific region.

Dudley’s media experience covers both print and broadcast journalism, including regular TV appearances discussing news and developments in the mining and natural resources sector, and the Australian economy more broadly.

MAGNUS Managing Director, John Gardner, said the appointment of Dudley was another positive step in the evolution of the MAGNUS business.

“In the 12 months since opening our doors, the MAGNUS business has built a reputation for delivering outstanding results for clients in relation to corporate transactions, investor relations and their broader corporate communication needs in the resources, mining services, property, professional services and financial services sectors.

“To attract an advisor of Dudley’s experience is a major win for both MAGNUS and our clients, and a reflection of the future growth potential of the business,” John said.

Until recently, Dudley was an Associate Director with Edelman in London. His main clients included Akbank (Turkey’s largest bank), private bank Brown Brothers Harriman and TD Waterhouse (the UK’s biggest execution-only broker). He has also worked on a litigation case in Turkey for global hedge fund QVT and Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan’s acquisition of lottery operator Camelot.

Before joining Edelman, Dudley worked at The HeadLand Consultancy, a specialist financial communication firm in London. Prior to that, he spent seven years in Australia where he worked for Bloomberg and Ogilvy financial PR affiliate, Savage & Partners.

Research: Time with Investors a Priority

June 1st, 2010 by MAGNUS

Time with Investors a priority for ASX-listed Companies: Research

  • 52% of repondents to spend more one-on-one time with their investors
  • 39% of respondents say site tours will generate more investor interest
  • New wave of market uncertainty heightens the need to communicate with investors

More time allocated to one-on-one meetings with investors and the showcasing of company operations through dedicated site tours, are the main investor relations priorities for ASX-listed companies this year, according to a recent survey by the Australasian Investor Relations Association (AIRA).

The Investor Relations Intentions Survey for 2010 found that 52 per cent of respondents said they planned to allocate more time to one-on-one meetings with investors this calendar year, while 39 per cent said site tours would help to generate more investor interest in their company, when compared with 2009.

Around a third of respondents said they planned to increase their commitment this year to other investor relations activities, such as one-on-one analyst meetings, domestic and international road shows, investor days and broker conferences, whilst the remainder of respondents expected to maintain a similar level of commitment in 2010 as they did last year.

Managing Director of MAGNUS Investor Relations + Corporate Communication, John Gardner, says the increased focus on face time with investors in 2010 is not surprising given the tumultuous events of 2009.

“The first six months of 2009 was full of challenges and uncertainty as companies navigated their way through the fall-out of the global financial crisis and began the path to recovery, which we saw in the second half of the year.

“Although, twelve months later, there is a new wave of uncertainty in global markets, there is also a general theme that listed companies should commit more time to meeting with their investors as a means of communicating the company’s future growth strategy,” John said.

“Investor relationships are built and maintained through various activities, but as a minimum they should include regular face-to-face meetings between management and investors, to allow investors to ask management the tough questions… and to see how they respond to them.

“When it comes to communicating a compelling investment proposition, the strength of management – along with company strategy, company strengths and market position – is a critical part of the ‘story’ that is usually best told in person,” John added.

Site tours are also a compelling way to communicate the full company investment story at a time when the competition to attract investment dollars, particularly in the small to mid-cap space, is very fierce.

“MAGNUS has completed a number of client site tours this year with investors, analysts and media, and we expect more activities of this nature as the year unfolds,” John concluded.

The Investor Relations Intentions Survey is conducted annually with ASX 200 companies, across all industry sectors. MAGNUS is a corporate member of AIRA.
